SYSTEM MECHANICAL ENGINEER

PSI is an established leader in the design and manufacture of bespoke advanced materials process plant. An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an experienced engineer to join our highly skilled team assembling, testing, installing and commissioning plant in the UK and overseas. The successful applicant will have a strong multi-disciplined engineering background with a proven track record of working from technical drawings to assemble large complex process equipment that includes engineering disciplines vacuum, water, pneumatics and inert high pressure gas pipework.

Job Specification

The successful candidate will

  • Qualifications: Min. BTEC Level 3 / ONC Mech. Eng or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum 3+ year’s practical technician engineering background, apprentice trained
  • Opportunities for rapid career development and advancement

  • Work well in a small team and independently
  • Attention to detail and ability to absorb technical instruction

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Objectives

To be a fully participating member of the PSI Design team. Holding responsibility for the Interpretation of technical specification requirements, CAD modelling, drafting and production of relevant technical documentation.

Responsible to:  Engineering Manager


Job Specification

The successful candidate will

  • Developing and maintaining scientific and engineering knowledge to enable the competent and effective design of PSI systems / equipment
  • Application of professional design skills, using PSI licensed Autodesk Inventor and Vault 3D modelling software while ensuring safe orderly storage of requisite drawing files
  • Production of Bills of Materials – containing sub-assemblies, components and purchased items
  • Designing equipment and systems for Vacuum, Pressure, Water, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, High pressure Gas and Induction heating
  • Awareness of pressure equipment directives and critical pressure safety systems
  • In conjunction with Project Engineering working to agreed deadlines with a focussed approach to given tasks
  • Active team member will contribute to project development with diligent positive approach to challenging situations
  • Application of the PSI Design office practices with a sound understanding of Standard Procedures
  • Actively participate in problem solving tasks with the Design Office Team
  • The ability to actively engage in technical knowledge building tasks and participate in any training requirements that the company deems to be necessary
 

Candidate Profile

The candidate must be able to demonstrate a combination of technical, people and business skills with meticulous attention to detail.

They will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to improvement and attainment of quality standards in all of the services provided.  They will be able to work consistently under times of pressure.
 
Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor 3D or Solid Works is highly desirable.
 
Must have a sound understanding of engineering principles and relevant standards.
 
Ability to quickly calculate and assess engineering problems, using both hand calculations and software analysis.
 
Ability to design for Vacuum, Pressure, Water, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, High pressure Gas and Heat services.
 
Control and Instrumentation knowledge or experience would be a bonus.
 
The candidate must be prepared, when other departments are overloaded to lend a hand on a team working basis to help targets to be met.
  
They will be expected to be prepared for occasional out of hours working to enable critical deadlines to be achieved, and to maintain as confidential all PSI technical, commercial and operational information.
 
The candidate will be self-motivated, with excellent verbal, writing and communication skills. They should be able to demonstrate a full knowledge of the skills and behaviours required to efficiently complete the necessary tasks required of the Design Office, to have experience in a similar environment. 
 
They will demonstrate perseverance, patience and the ability to work to pre agreed schedules.
 
A clean, full driving licence is essential, as is a current passport and the ability and willingness to travel to any country in the world

Salary:

Starting salary: IRO £30,000 - £40,000. Dependant on experience - paid monthly

Full UK Driving licence and ability to travel globally as required

 

Working Hours:

08:30 to 17:30 – Monday to Friday (exc. Bank holidays) / 1 hour lunch break
